Supporting Families and Loved Ones: Insights on Dementia Care from Vicky Allen of Summerfield of Redlands
    Rotary Redlands

The Rotary Club of Redlands was honored to welcome Vicky Allen, Community Relations Director at Summerfield of Redlands, as our featured speaker this week. With more than a decade of experience specializing in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, Vicky brings both professional expertise and personal passion to her work supporting families in our community.

    Compassionate and Informed Dementia Care

Vicky shared her mission to enhance the quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia through compassionate, up-to-date care practices. At Summerfield of Redlands, her team focuses on creating supportive environments that foster meaningful connections between residents, caregivers, and families.

Her presentation reminded us that dementia care isn’t just about medical support — it’s about understanding, patience, and preserving dignity. Vicky emphasized that education and awareness play a vital role in helping families make informed decisions about long-term care.

Recognizing When It’s Time for Professional Assistance

Vicky provided valuable insights into identifying when professional memory care may be needed. Families are encouraged to watch for signs such as increasing confusion, wandering, changes in personal hygiene, or difficulty managing daily activities.

When those challenges arise, it can be overwhelming for loved ones to know what steps to take. Vicky explained how Summerfield of Redlands works alongside families to evaluate needs and find the right programs — including those that may help offset memory care expenses.

Resources and Support for Redlands Families

One of Vicky’s key messages was the importance of planning ahead. She encourages families to visit local care communities, ask questions, and learn about available resources — even before professional care is needed. Doing so can make future decisions less stressful and ensure loved ones receive the best possible support.

Vicky also shared that Summerfield of Redlands regularly offers educational sessions, support resources, and outreach to families navigating memory care challenges. Her dedication to serving the dementia community reflects the values of compassion and service that align so closely with Rotary’s mission.

The Rotary Club of Redlands extends our sincere thanks to Vicky Allen for sharing her knowledge, empathy, and commitment to improving the lives of those affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. Her work at Summerfield of Redlands continues to make a meaningful impact on individuals and families throughout our community.
