The Redlands Noon Rotary Club recently welcomed Edwin Ettinghausen for an engaging and memorable presentation on CPR and emergency response.
With more than four decades of experience, Edwin has taught over 9,000 CPR classes and seminars throughout Southern California. His depth of knowledge, combined with his approachable and lighthearted style, made for an informative and enjoyable session.
During his presentation, Edwin walked members through the basics of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, or CPR, emphasizing the importance of acting quickly in an emergency. When a person has no heartbeat and is not breathing, immediate action can make the difference between life and death.
He reminded members that in these situations, there is nothing to lose by starting CPR right away and continuing until professional help arrives.
Through a hands-on demonstration, Edwin explained the rhythm and structure of CPR cycles, including chest compressions and rescue breaths. To help illustrate the correct pace, he shared a familiar tip: performing compressions to the beat of the song Stayin’ Alive can help maintain the proper rhythm.
In true Rotary fashion, the presentation also included moments of humor. Edwin joked that while Another One Bites the Dust may match the tempo, it might not be the most encouraging choice in the moment.
Even the demonstration dummy joined in the fun, dressed with a bow tie for the occasion.
Beyond the humor, the message was clear and important. Knowing how to perform CPR is a valuable skill that can help save lives.
At Redlands Noon Rotary, we appreciate speakers like Edwin who bring both expertise and energy to topics that truly matter. His presentation was a great reminder that being prepared can make all the difference.
