Spoke Newsletter – December 21st, 2023

This week we have our Rotary Holiday Dinner. Plus, to entertain us, we will have the “Men’s Quartet.” Not sure who they are but I hope CAL is not involved, as I hear he was kicked out of the church choir.

What a great performance we had last week. For those who could stay, it was a treat. This group of high school students put together their own band and arranged each piece. It was a little over a half hour of big band sounds and wild solos. I spoke to the leader of the group after the show who will be pursuing an engineering degree after high school. He is thinking of having a music minor.

RAYMOND MOOREHOUSE will talk to us about the homeless situation in Redlands. In 2016 DR. MOOREHOUSE moved back to Redlands to start a street ministry for the homeless. After five years of work, he and his wife launched an organization entitled Earth Outreach to expand biblical teachings to the homeless. I am sure we will hear about his travels around town. DR. MOOREHOUSE is married to “Mary Blake” and they have three wonderful children.

ROTARY CHRISTMAS SOCIAL – We all had a great time at LARRY and CHAR BURGESS’ last Friday. Such a wonderful place to bring in the holiday spirit. President ALVAREZ even brought his “Jar of Polio” to the event for donations. Perhaps CAL will let us know how much was raised.

BURRAGE MANSIONS CHRISTMAS DRIVE THRU- Thank you to all of those who participated in the Christmas Drive Thru, I am sure it was a wonderful event.

The GARBIS DER-YEGHIAN 34TH ANNUAL PEACE CONFERENCE will be held this year at the NIXON LIBRARY on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Our club is one of the sponsors, so if you would like to attend, we have tickets available.

For those who will be in town, WE WILL HAVE A MEETING DECEMBER 28. Our program for that meeting will be a presentation by RAYMOND MOOREHOUSE on the Redlands homeless situation. Something to think about as we start the new year.

Don’t forget about the DIAMOND HEIST DINNER coming up early next year. I am sure we will have plenty of information in the weeks to come.

I also hear we have “Red Wine and Blues (Brews)” coming back this year.

  • Why was Santa’s little helper depressed? Because he had very low elf esteem.
  • What do you call a kid who doesn’t believe in Santa? A rebel without a Claus.
  • Why did the dreidel go to the doctor? It kept getting dizzy spells.
  • How much did Santa pay for his sleigh? Nothing. It was on the house.
  • I asked the waiter if my latkes would be long. He said no, they’ll be round.

It was great seeing many of you at our holiday social last week, thanks for coming out – and thank you for your contributions to end polio which tallied up to an impressive $1, 255! If you couldn’t make the party and want to help in our club’s contributions to end polio, I believe JIM PINDER will be offering bourbon to go with your coffee today… for a donation to polio, a warming cup of joe could be yours for enjoyment. As always, a big thank you to VICTORIA MARSHALL and DAVID GAUTHIER for cooking up some delicious prime rib for us to enjoy! Rejoice in your holiday weekend/week and we’ll see you next week.
