Spoke Newsletter – November 9th, 2023

WILLIAM PATTON MD, will speak to us today, and his program sounds interesting! “Medical History Illustrated by Stories About US Presidents” A graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, and a two year Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Harvard Medical School; and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. All this is great, but he is also a member of the Fortnightly Club of Redlands, thus a good storyteller! He and his wife JULIE and their sons have lived in Redlands since 1975.

HEATHER OZUR, President Elect of the California Association of Realtors, spoke to us about the never boring, ever-changing world of California Real Estate rising interest rates, a restrictive insurance market, and an excruciatingly tight inventory bring significant challenges to today’s market. We also learned what the California Association of Realtor lobbyists are doing to protect your rights as homeowners.

What a wonderful program Rotary will have! Thank you to STAN WEISSER for arranging this program, Rabbi HILLEL COHEN. He served as Rabbi of Congregation Emanu El in San Bernardino from 1963 till 2001 and is now Rabbi Emeritus of that congregation. His list of accomplishments and commendations is too long to mention here, but we are in for a treat!

FOOD DRIVE: Still time to write a handsome check to or bring food in support of our competition with Noon Kiwanis in support of our food drive. Please remember that $1=1 pound of food! Remember this campaign ends this week. Questions…talk to JIM NOLAN!

Saturday, November 11 is Veterans Day

Join LYNN WHITMER in waving the flag and thanking our veterans for their service to our country. LYNN requests you sign up with her so we may have good representation. Parade will start at RHS and journey straight down Citrus to Eureka, turn right to Redlands Blvd., then down to Jenny Davis Park. (I would be with you, but am driving the Grand Marshall.)

November 11: 2 PM till 7 PM the Redlands Veterans Committee will host a dinner dance at the Elks Lodge in Redlands. All veterans and their families are welcome…there is no charge!

December 11: STAN WEISSER is once again organizing support and HELP for the Purple Turtles dinner at the Elks Club. For many years we have dressed festively and show up to help serve at their Annual Holiday Party. Please let STAN know if you will be able to help.

December 16th – Burrage Mansion Christmas Drive Thru…here is hoping you can help direct traffic, sit on Santa’s lap and enjoy a great Redlands event!

Christmas Rotary Social will be December 15 at the home of LARRY and CHAR BURGESS from 5 PM to
7 PM. Who gets to stay late in the cellar?

Happy Thursday to all! We have a fun few weeks ahead of us as we look forward to the Veterans Day Parade and enjoy a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday. And, next Thursday is the annual release of Beaujolais Nouveau for those who enjoy it. (More on that next week) And thank you to LARRY and CHAR BURGESS for opening their home to host our holiday social on Friday, December 15th from 5-7pm. Mark your calendars! One last note – first, our Diamond Heist is now on Saturday, January 27th so there’s plenty of time to purchase your tickets, recover from the holidays, and to come out and join the fun at the end of January 2024.
